Darkness Of Night

I awoke suddenly in a startled fright,
Groping for the light switch in the darkness of night,
Even though I had heard no sound,
I felt presence in the room, no courage could be found.
The calmness of the night, brought a frosty chill,
As I was trying to decide, "What's this thing that I feel?"
My feet were planted to the floor, like the roots of a mighty oak tree,
Could it really be? Could it be Satan himself come after me?
What have I done? Where can I go?
This fiery being I'd rather not know.
It's been to long since God and I spoke,
That's why with this fear, that I suddenly awoke.
"Please God help me!" I cried but I knew it was to late.
It had been to long, I  knew that I shouldn't wait.
God said, "You knew what was right, but you filled your life with sin."
Now that is all that it takes, for Satan to win.
Now he's here after you and you call me in the darkness of night,
My advice to you is "Don't turn on the light!"

A Miracle

The air blows softly through my hair,
As gentle as a baby breathes,
As I hold my son close with care,
And a bonding love inside me seethes.

So many wonders on earth to see,
Maybe later in my walk of life,
But most amazing now to me,
My newborn son, my joy, my pride.

A miracle I prayed for night and day,
Never thinking that it could be,
This bundle of joy He sent my way,
My son, my newborn, my baby....

The Enemy

I walked along a narrow path,
With eyes that would not see.
I raged, cursed and fought against,
An unseen enemy.

Pain and sorrow, anger and fear,
All paved my tortured road.
Until at last, I prayed to God,
Please ease my weary load.

A light came shining from His heart,
A light to help me see.
My enemy came into view,
The one I fought was me.

Children At Play

This withered old man homeless and cold,
Was watching the children at play.
He spoke not a word, afraid he'd disturb,
And cause them to all go away.
He was remembering a child from a long time ago,
A time he can barely recall.
Playing a game, "Oh, what was the name?"
It had something to do with a ball.
So many memories forgotten with time,
But the little boy's face was so clear.
He would love to know, what he's doing today,
But nothing can out way the fear,
Of a father whose failed what's most dear in life,
His son, that he never really knew.
While the old man was lost in his thoughts,
A little boy strayed away from the few.
He walked right up and extended his hand,
Then said "Would you like to play in our game?"
The old man couldn't believe the familiar face,
As he asked the little boy his name.
When he told him his name and said he was the third,
The old man knew that his prayers had been heard.
What the little boy didn't know, as they walked away,
Was that he was holding his Grandfathers hand that day.

Dust If You Must!

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better, to paint a picture or write a letter?
Bake a cake or plant a seed, ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time, with rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain, this day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bare in mind, old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go, and go you must, you, yourself will make more dust!

A house becomes a home when you can write "I love you" on the furniture :)

Introduction

All of my life I have collected quotes and thoughts of others. Eventually, I started writing my own down along with some poetry. This was the start of my folder that I named  "Thoughts to Ponder". I have never claimed to be a writer. I was born and raised in the Appalachia, we have our own language there. Although I was educated in the English language, the Appalachian slang comes through in my writing. (smile) This blog was created mostly for my own pleasure but if you do happen across it, I hope you get some pleasure from reading it. The majority of the posts, along with the errors are made by me and I retain the rights to all of them. If anything that I post is not mine and I know the author of it I will always post credit.
